Meet your Local Club Pro

Scott Williams
Head Golf Professional
Glendale Country Club
Bellevue, Wash.

How many years have you spent at Glendale Country Club?
I am in my eighth year.

What do you think you'd be doing if not a golf professional?
I would be involved in real estate in some fashion.

If you were king of the golf world for one day, what would be your top priority?
Get every golf professional to volunteer their time to coach and teach junior golfers.

Your club is probably the closest to the new PNGA offices in Bellevue. With that in mind, what's the most interesting ruling you've needed in competition?
A ball was hit into a moving maintenance truck. No penalty, and drop where it landed in the truck.

Growing up a teenager with Fred Couples, how many times out of 10 could you beat him? How about now?
I couldn't beat him then, and didn't he win something like $1.8 million this season? That covers the now part.

Seven years later, what's your biggest single memory of playing in the 1998 PGA Championship?
The entire week was an incredible experience for me and my family. To play in a major championship a mile from home was truly a dream come true. The single memory would actually have been finishing the 72nd hole at the Club Professionals Championship at Pinehurst knowing I had qualified. I remember the interview with reporters behind the 18th green. What a feeling that was.

What's the most enjoyable aspect of being a club professional?
Being around the game you love every day, dealing with people who love the game and making it fun for them.

What's the most challenging aspect of being a club professional?
As a head golf professional at a private club you wear many hats. Staying sharp and improving in all areas is a continuous and welcomed challenge.

What's something interesting about yourself most of your members don't know?
I'm taking the fifth on this one.
