Bandon Trails opens to rave reviews
As of the first of June, the triumphant trifecta of golf courses at the Bandon Dunes Resort on the Southern Oregon coast is entirely open to public play.
Bandon Trails is the latest masterpiece to come on line, and while it's more inland and not hugging the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, it's garnering as many rave reviews as it sister courses, Bandon Dunes and Pacific Dunes, did when they opened.
Here's what Thomas Dunne of Travel + Leisure Golf magazine wrote about the 6,849-yard, par-71 layout.
"After touring the Trails, I arrived at a few conclusions. For one, it might well prove to be the most challenging course at the resort, not because of mere length (greater than Pacific but less than Bandon), but because of the number of holes that play directly with and against the prevailing wind. The three finishing
holes, a long par-3 sandwiched between two daunting uphill climbs, will provide plenty of drama down the stretch. And while the Trails doesn't feature as many all-world ocean views as its neighbors, the grounds are rich with flora, and the course will explode with color in the summertime."
That type of praise is expected to continue as more and more golfers experience the layout designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. Those two, however, like to give as much credit as possible to nature.
"You hear about it, but until you see it, you just don't realize that it is such a special place," Crenshaw added.
