NCAA women continue to get to know Northwest courses
The top collegiate women golfers in the country will be making frequent trips to the Northwest in the next two years.
The NCAA Championships will be at Sunriver Resort near Bend, Ore., this spring, and then it was recently announced that the 2006 West Regional
will be held at Washington National in Auburn, Wash.
The NCAA Championships will be May 17-20 this year, then the West Regionals will be May 11-13 in 2006 with the University of Washington serving
as the host school.
This will be the third major NCAA competition at Washington National, after the 2002 Women's Nationals and the 2003 Men's West Regionals.
BCGA moves into its new offices
The British Columbia Golf Association has moved into its new offices in Richmond, B.C. Previously, the offices were in Burnaby.
The new address is Unit 2105, 21000 Westminster Highway, Richmond, B.C. V6V 2S9.
The new phone numbers are 604-279-2580, and 888-833-2242 (toll free) with the fax number 604-207-9535.
Merger in Canada now official
The Royal Canadian Golf Association and the Canadian Ladies Golf Association formally approved their merger at its annual meeting in January in
Victoria, B.C.
"This is a historic moment for women's golf in Canada," said CLGA President Carole Mix. "I know that our membership is excited about our future
and we believe that it is not only women's golf that will benefit but that the entire game will thrive under this new mandate."
The RCGA also presented the Canadian Turfgrass Research Foundation with $75,000. During the past 12 years, the RCGA has assisted the CTRF with
$885,000.
The RCGA also donated $1 million to the RCGA Foundation that helps establish scholarships for college golfers, $150,000 to Future Links,
$50,000 to the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame, $28,000 to the RCGA Internship Program and made $20,000 in various provincial grants.
Seattle's Clark added to WGA Board
Paul N. Clark, the CEO of ICOS Corporation and a member of Seattle Golf Club, has been elected to the Board of Directors for the Western Golf
Association.
The WGA, based in Chicago, administers the Evans Scholarship Program as well as the Western Open and the Western Amateur.
Caruso, Richards continue with USGA
Paul D. Caruso, Jr., of Helena, Mont., was re-elected as vice-president of the United States Golf Association and Bruce C. Richards of
Bellevue, Wash., was re-elected to the Executive Committee.
The elections were at the USGA's annual meeting in Santa Barbara, Calif., where Fred S. Ridley of Tampa, Fla., was elected to a second
one-year term as president.
